When can I book the hotel?
If you only plan to stay from the 19th to 21st, no booking is needed; we will assign you a room if you RSVP on time (June 15th)
If you want to stay for up to 3 days before or after those dates, the hotel offers a rate of €325 per night. To book, please email reservas@praiadocanal.pt and mention the Chilson-Carroll wedding.
Please note, the nights of the 19 & 20th will be taken care of - both reservations and cost are being taken care of as a part of the hotel buy out. (aka this is our venue cost)
What should I wear? (Welcome Party)
Deciding what to wear can be tough (especially when you are packing lite.) To help you out we've curated some inspiration which can be found on the link below. For the welcome party, we encourage a poolside chic look. What does this mean? Think more fancy than swimsuits/cover ups, less formal than a white table cloth dinner. So a leather flip flop instead of plastic, espadrilles but not stilettos. Fabric and fit-wise go for linen's/silk, anything that drapes and breaths is ideal. Bright, bold colors are encouraged (think palm springs in the 70s). Kaftans, linen button ups and two piece sets are safe bets. **Do not be afraid of white during this event - the bride will not be offended**
What should I wear? (Wedding)
The dress code is festive formal. Less formal than black tie, more than cocktail attire while adding your own spin. A jacket with either tie or pocket square is perfect. Don't be afraid of being bold with colors and prints. If you want to add flair to your outfit go for it, fun accessories, dramatic silhouettes, interesting embellishments or unique textures. For those in dresses, opt for a floor length or low-high cut. We also encourage folks to have a shawl for the evening as the temperature will drop.
Note - we wouldn't encourage stilettos for the ceremony as it will be on soft grass. If you want to change into them afterwards, no worries your room will be less than a 2 minute detour to cocktail hour as each event is on the property.
**No white dresses on this day - bride will be cranky**
What’s the best airport to fly into?
We highly recommend flying into Faro (FAO), an hour and 15 minute drive from the resort. You can fly into Lisbon (LIS) and drive about ~3 hours south to the venue.
How can we get to the resort?
You can rent a car at either airport. If you fly into Faro you can coordinate a car service to take you to the resort. We recommend ONLY using SIXT and go for an SUV if possible. One, we’ve been stranded on the side of the road for hours because of a horrible rental and two, because the entrance to the resort is a VERY bumpy dirt road.
Do I need a Visa or International Drivers License?
Unless you plan to stay for 3+ months in the country you do no need either to enter the country or to rent a car.
Do I need a Passport to enter the country?
Yes! And check your passport now. If your passport expires within six months you will not be allowed to travel. And if you don’t have a passport we highly recommend you get one for this event or any potential need to exit the US… because ya know…
Is the bride taking the grooms last name?
Nope! While the name Carroll is lovely. Paige has lived her whole life as a Chilson, built a career and an individual identity around her name. It’s very important to her, plus it’s on her degrees, offer letters and checks! Please respect her decision even if you do not agree.
Any idea how much this may cost?
Yes, we have put together a summary budget based on our travels and flight estimates. See here.
